Will Supporting Trinamool In Bengal Now Invite Violence, Persecution, And Death, Asks Abhishek Banerjee

Kolkata: Will supporting Trinamool Congress in the current Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled West Bengal now invite violence, persecution, and death, party General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee asked on Tuesday.

In a social media statement, Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of the party chief and former Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, had claimed that although death counts in post-poll violence in West Bengal had been rising, every cry for justice had been falling on deaf ears.

According to him, two dedicated Trinamool workers, namely Somnath Bhattacharya from Saptagram in North 24 Parganas district and Tapan Sikdar from Chakdah in Nadia district, were brutally assaulted by goons reportedly backed by the ruling BJP in the post-poll scenario, following which both died.

“The grieving families ask a simple but chilling question – does supporting Trinamool Congress in Bengal under @BJP4India’s watch now invite violence, persecution, and death?” Banerjee asked in his social media post.

He also claimed that even in the current situation, the police are inactive, courts have remained silent spectators, and BJP leaders are celebrating their victory in West Bengal.

Banerjee had also claimed that in the midst of such a burning situation in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was planning his next foreign trip and Union Home Minister Amit Shah was missing in action.

“And amidst this shameful silence, ordinary people continue to suffer the consequences of BJP’s politics of VIOLENCE, VENGEANCE & UTTER LAWLESSNESS,” his social media post read.

Since the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were announced on May 4 and saw the rout of the Trinamool, Banerjee had not been much in political activities except issuing some social media statements.

However, the frequency of his social media posts is much less now compared to what it was before.

On Monday, the Suvendu Adhikari government had announced the withdrawal of his ‘Z-plus’ security and instead, allotted him the security provided to any Member of Parliament.

Banerjee will no longer be entitled to the additional security personnel and special pilot car facility, which he used to enjoy during the previous Trinamool regime.
