Rajgangpur: A 44-year-old man who had gone missing after an alleged scuffle in Rajgangpur town of Sundargarh district was found dead in a sewer nearly 30 hours later, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Babulal Dungdung of Jampali village under Garhwana Panchayat Pada within Rajgangpur police limits.
According to sources, Babulal had accompanied his wife to attend a social function at a relative’s house in Ranibandh Dhobapada under Rajgangpur Municipality on Sunday evening. While his wife returned home after the feast, Babulal stayed back at the venue.
Later in the night, he allegedly got into a scuffle with some local residents. Since then, he had remained untraceable.
After Babulal failed to return home, his wife lodged a missing complaint at Rajgangpur police station on Monday. Police subsequently launched a search operation and detained several youths for questioning.
On Tuesday morning, police intensified the search with the help of sniffer dogs and fire services personnel. Babulal’s body was later recovered from a nearby sewer in Dhobapada.
Family members of the deceased alleged that Babulal was assaulted and thrown into the drain. Police said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem examination report is received.
