Baripada: In a shocking incident reported from Mayurbhanj district, police on Tuesday rescued a six-month-old baby boy after his intoxicated father allegedly attempted to sell him for Rs 30,000 to arrange money for alcohol.
The incident took place in Chandabila village under Baripada Sadar police limits. According to local residents, the man and his family allegedly brought the infant out of their house and moved around the village in search of buyers.
After receiving information about the incident, personnel from Baripada Sadar police station rushed to the village and rescued the child.
Police later shifted the baby to the District Headquarters Hospital in Baripada for a medical examination. Following the health check-up, the infant was handed over to a child welfare institution for care and protection.
Locals alleged that the father was frequently intoxicated and had earlier endangered the child’s life as well. Villagers told police that when the baby was around two months old, the man had allegedly thrown the infant behind the house while under the influence of alcohol.
Police are investigating the matter and further action is underway.
