Sundargarh: In a shocking incident of road rage, a pickup vehicle driver was brutally beaten to death by a group of truck drivers near the Bhasma police station area in Surda in Sundargarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Munda, a resident of Sagarpali Khamar Pada.
According to preliminary police information, the incident occurred when Rajesh Munda’s pickup vehicle accidentally hit a trailer driver who was crossing the road while the pickup was returning. Enraged by the accident, other truck drivers gathered and launched a violent group attack on Rajesh Munda. They allegedly beat him mercilessly with iron rods and other deadly weapons.
After the assault, the injured driver fainted at the spot. He was immediately placed in his own pickup vehicle and rushed to a nearby hospital by locals or associates. However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. The hospital authorities promptly informed the Bhasma police and town police.
Upon receiving the information, Bhasma police reached the crime scene, inspected the spot, and initiated an investigation. The police have so far detained three trailer drivers believed to be directly involved in the murder.
Further investigation is underway to identify all persons involved in the group attack and to determine the full sequence of events. A case of murder has been registered at Bhasma police station.
