Sambalpur: In a early morning encounter, Burla Police intercepted a suspicious Swift car during a routine vehicle checking drive, leading to the arrest of a notorious criminal and his three associates.
According to police, on the intervening night Saturday and Sunday, police were conducting vehicle checks near Planetarium Chhak, Burla. Around 5:00 AM, a Swift car coming from the Sambalpur University side was signalled to stop but attempted to flee towards Right Dyke road.
The police team immediately chased and intercepted the vehicle near Fishery Chhak. One accused jumped out and tried to escape, but was overpowered. He was identified as Manish Sahu, a history-sheeter involved in more than 14 criminal cases, including dacoity, robbery, Arms Act violations, and Corex-related offences. Three of his associates were also apprehended.
Police also seized one pistol with live ammunition, three empty cartridges, a car, five mobile phones, 10 cartons of Corex syrup.
The accused was shifted to VIMSAR, Burla for a medical check-up. Police have initiated legal action under the NDPS Act and other relevant laws. Investigation is continuing.
