New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led government functionaries, including Ministers and officials, in making the most of “Metro Monday” and spreading the message of optimal use of public transport.

Lieutenant Governor Sandhu, who had used the Metro on numerous occasions, joined the green initiative, which also served as an opportunity to interact with young Metro users.

In a post on X, Sandhu wrote, “As on previous occasions, bumped into young professionals during my metro ride to Central Delhi this evening. Their insightful perspectives reflect the energy and ambition of a new India. Such interactions always offer valuable ground-level insights into the opportunities and challenges faced by our youth.”

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta used the Metro to come to office, and on her return journey, used the Delhi Gate Metro Station – the nearest point to catch the Metro. “Metro Monday” is a Delhi government initiative as part of the “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” campaign, promoting the message of conservation at a time when fuel prices have become a politically sensitive issue.

Under the ‘Metro Monday’ initiative, Delhi Government ministers and officials used public transport such as the Delhi Metro and other sustainable modes of transport.

Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST/OBC Welfare, Cooperatives, and Elections Ravinder Indraj Singh travelled to the Delhi Secretariat using Metro and feeder bus services as part of the “Metro Monday” initiative, conveying the message of public participation, fuel conservation, and responsible citizenship.

“The citizens of Delhi are playing a significant role in responding to the Prime Minister’s appeal by prioritising public transport, carpooling, energy conservation, and adopting Make in India initiatives,” said Labour Minister Kapil Mishra, while travelling by Metro and Metro Feeder Bus.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood was also seen taking a metro ride in support of the fuel-saving initiative. He interacted with several passengers during the journey and urged citizens to adopt sustainable modes of transport.

BJP MP from the North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, Manoj Tiwari, also travelled by metro following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the nation to reduce fuel consumption.

As part of the steps to promote eco-friendly transportation, parking charges for electric vehicles in Connaught Place have been reduced by 50 per cent. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal distributed parking passes to encourage greater use of electric vehicles.

Minister for Industries, Food and Supplies, Environment, Forest and Wildlife, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, travelled from his constituency, Rajouri Garden, to the Indraprastha metro station by Metro and then used the EV DEVI Bus service to reach the Delhi Secretariat.

Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh travelled from his Vikaspuri residence to Delhi Secretariat using the Delhi Metro and an electric DTC bus.

He boarded the Metro from Uttam Nagar and travelled till R.K. Ashram Marg Metro Station, after which he completed his journey to Delhi Secretariat through an electric DTC bus.

During the journey, the Transport Minister interacted with commuters, including children travelling on the Metro, who shared suggestions and concerns regarding commuter convenience and Metro operations.
