Heatwave Grips Odisha; Mercury Crosses 45°C In Several Towns

Bhubaneswar: Severe heatwave conditions continued to grip large parts of Odisha on Wednesday, with temperatures crossing the 45°C mark in several western districts of the state. Titlagarh emerged as the hottest place in Odisha, recording a scorching 45.8°C, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Boudh followed closely at 45.6°C, while Bhawanipatna recorded 45.4°C. Sambalpur registered 45.3°C, Subarnapur 45.2°C and Bolangir 45.0°C, highlighting the intensity of the prevailing heatwave conditions across western Odisha. Jharsuguda recorded 44.8°C, Hirakud 44.5°C and Nuapada 44.0°C.

Among other places, Angul recorded 42.7°C, followed by Phulbani at 42.5°C and Nabarangpur at 42.2°C. Malkangiri and Bargarh both registered 42.0°C. Sundargarh and Nayagarh recorded 41.6°C each, while Talcher registered 41.5°C and Khordha 41.0°C.

In northern and southern Odisha, Baripada and Rourkela recorded 40.2°C each. Paralakhemundi registered 39.6°C, Koraput 39.4°C and Chandbali 39.2°C. Daringibadi and Deogarh recorded 39.0°C each, while Keonjhar and Kendrapada registered 38.8°C.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also experienced sweltering conditions, recording 38.4°C and 37.8°C respectively. Jajpur registered 38.6°C, Dhenkanal 38.3°C, Jagatsinghpur 37.5°C and Balasore 37.4°C. Coastal districts, however, remained relatively cooler, with Bhadrak recording 35.0°C, while Paradip and Puri registered 34.8°C each. Gopalpur recorded 33.6°C.

The IMD has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in several districts over the next few days. The weather agency has advised people to avoid stepping outdoors during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
