Bhubaneswar: The proposed Rath Yatra in Hapur, scheduled for June 14, has been postponed following objections raised by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Puri, over its timing and adherence to traditional observance.
The authorities of the Bhagaban Shree Jagannath Ratha Yatra Seva Samiti have submitted their written consent to the Hapur district administration, agreeing to defer the event after concerns were flagged regarding its conduct ahead of the traditional schedule.
The Hapur district administration subsequently informed SJTA chief Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee about the development.
Padhee welcomed the decision and appreciated the prompt action taken by the district administration to uphold the sanctity of the religious tradition.
“We are grateful to @DmHapur for the prompt and thoughtful intervention in upholding the sanctity and traditions of the sacred observance of Ratha Jatra. Mahaprabhu’s blessings be with all,” Padhee posted on X.
Earlier, the SJTA had objected to the proposed early celebration of the Rath Yatra and had written to the Hapur district administration, requesting intervention to prevent what it termed an untimely observance.
As per the traditional tithi, the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is scheduled to be held in Puri on July 16.
