Bhubaneswar: The Special Intelligence Wing (SIW) of Odisha Police has written to the Inspector General of CRPF and the Inspector General of BSF, Odisha seeking verification and information on 29 firearms looted by Left Wing Extremists (Naxals) in Malkangiri district decades ago.
In an official letter dated May 11, 2026, the DIG of Police of Special Intelligence Wing has requested both central armed police forces to verify the weapons recovered and share details if any match the looted arms from 1992 and 2001 LWE incidents.
The letter mentions that Commandants of OSAP 2nd Battalion, Jharsuguda and OSAP 3rd Battalion, Koraput had earlier reported the looting of these 29 weapons during Naxal-related incidents in Malkangiri.
The SIW has urged the CRPF and BSF to thoroughly verify weapons recovered during their anti-Naxal operations and encounters over the years and immediately inform Odisha Police if any matches are found.
“Hence, you are requested to verify the weapons recovered by your units during any incidents and share the details about the matched firearms to get back the back tracked weapons”, read the letter.
