Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to fast-track the development of the tourism sector in the state with key initiatives including the redevelopment of the historic Dhauli site, promotion of electric vehicles in the tourism sector, and the creation of a dedicated tourism land bank.

This was announced following a high-level review meeting of the Tourism Department held on Tuesday. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Pravati Parida at the Conference Room of Tourism Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, reviewed the progress of various ongoing tourism infrastructure projects, development works at major tourist destinations, and promotional strategies.

Parida laid special emphasis on the development works in and around Dhauli. Under the Dhauli Master Plan, she directed officials to prioritize the use of e-vehicles for tourist and local transport to promote eco-friendly tourism and enhance convenience for visitors.

She also stressed the need for beautification and integrated development of Kapileshwar and Sukhmeswar temples, Dasia Bauri Peeth, and other heritage sites located along the Bhubaneswar-Puri corridor. The Minister instructed officials to coordinate with concerned departments, obtain necessary approvals and permissions, and execute the proposed works at the earliest.

The department’s advertising and publicity plan for the Bhubaneswar-Puri corridor was also discussed, keeping in mind the upcoming Rath Yatra and the expected surge in tourists and devotees. Various activities related to homestay promotion, adventure tourism, safety and security of tourists, and sanitation at major tourist destinations were reviewed during the meeting.

The government also decided to create a special tourism land bank similar to those created for other industries to facilitate infrastructure development and attract investment in the tourism sector.

The meeting was attended by Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Pipili MLA Ashrit Patnaik, Tourism Commissioner-cum-Secretary Balwant Singh, Director Deepankar Mohapatra, and other senior officials of the Tourism Department.

This renewed push is expected to significantly boost tourism infrastructure and position Odisha as a more attractive and sustainable tourist destination.
