Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, the CID Crime Branch of Odisha Police has arrested the prime accused, Ashok Jena alias Geda, in connection with the sensational murder case that occurred on May 7, 2026 at Bhingarpur-Kaja area under Balianta police station.
According to a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Branch today, Ashok Jena (45), son of Alekh Chandra Jena of Gangeswargada under Cuttack Sadar Police Station was apprehended this morning from Hotel Regal Stay at Patia in Bhubaneswar.
The arrest was made based on substantial evidence collected during the intensive investigation. The case was registered as Balianta PS Case No. 221/2026 and later handed over to CID Crime Branch Case No. 06/2026.
The accused have been booked under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Investigation has revealed the involvement of the arrested accused in the assault on the deceased. With today’s arrest, the total number of persons arrested in the case has reached 17.The
Crime Branch has stated that the investigation is continuing on a priority basis and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining accused involved in the incident.
This arrest is being seen as a major development in the high-profile case that had shocked the Odisha people.
