Bokaro (Jharkhand): The Jharkhand police have arrested an associate of gangster Prince Khan for allegedly demanding extortion from a plant of BMW Industries Limited and issuing threats to its manager in the Bokaro district, police officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the accused — identified as 37-year-old Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Sector-2C in Bokaro — was arrested from Bermo Mor in the Dumri area. After interrogation, he was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Headquarters DSP Pawan Kumar said the accused had, on the instructions of the Prince Khan gang, prepared a handwritten threat note and placed it inside the company premises. A video of the note was later circulated on social media.

The case is of March 12, when Suresh Kumar Singh, manager of the BMW Industries plant located in the Balidih OP area, lodged a complaint at the Industrial Police Station.

He alleged that extortion was being demanded in the name of Prince Khan, along with threats of serious consequences.

Prince Khan, a gangster from Wasseypur in Dhanbad, is currently believed to be operating from Pakistan and running his network across several parts of Jharkhand. A Red Corner Notice has also been issued against him through Interpol.

Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. During the investigation, based on technical and human intelligence, police tracked down Rakesh Kumar.

During questioning, the accused admitted to being in contact with Prince Khan through an international WhatsApp number and acting on his instructions to write the threat note.

Police investigations revealed that the accused received Rs 1.50 lakh in two bank accounts for carrying out the task.

Police are also probing the financial transactions and the wider network of the gang. Examination of the accused’s mobile phone has yielded key digital evidence, including records of WhatsApp calls and chats with Prince Khan.

Police said further investigation into the matter is in progress.
