Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed pride in Puri hosting the prestigious BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Technical Meeting.
In a post on X, Patnaik highlighted Odisha’s remarkable journey in disaster management, crediting the state’s transformation since the devastating 1999 Super Cyclone.
He noted that Odisha has faced natural calamities with courage and conviction, guided by the core principle that “every life is precious.”
Patnaik particularly praised the state’s globally acclaimed zero-casualty model, which is built on resilient infrastructure and strong community preparedness. He said this approach has turned Odisha from a vulnerable state into a global beacon in disaster management.
Extending a warm welcome to all BRICS delegates, the former Chief Minister called for collective global efforts to build a safer and more resilient future.
It is pertinent to mention that for the first time Odisha is organising a BRICS-level conference.
