Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission has intensified its investigation into the Balianta mob violence case that led to the death of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain.
On Wednesday, a two-member NHRC team recorded statements of the woman who filed the initial complaint and the ambulance driver who reached the scene but left without shifting any injured persons. Both appeared before the panel after being issued notices.
Ambulance driver Sugyan Mallick of the 108 service told the NHRC that his team received a call at 11.06 am about an accident at Ramchandrapur in Balianta. They arrived at 11.34 am and contacted the caller, who said the victim had already been taken away in a private vehicle. So they returned to Adaspur Community Health Centre.
It is pertinent to mention that the NHRC team arrived in Bhubaneswar on June 1 and will continue its field investigation in Odisha till June 6.
The panel is looking into the circumstances of the mob attack, the sequence of violence, and claims of police negligence before and after constable Swain’s death.
