New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, on Wednesday shared details of the patients brought to its Trauma Centre following the devastating fire in Malviya Nagar that claimed at least 21 lives and left dozens injured.

According to the AIIMS Media Cell, a total of 13 patients were brought to the Trauma Centre after the fire broke out at the Flourish Stay hotel in South Delhi. Among them were three people who sustained injuries after jumping from the building in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.

Of the three victims who fell from a height, two left the hospital against medical advice. Hospital authorities said both patients were stable while under observation at the Trauma Centre. The third patient, a woman who suffered a serious head injury, underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.

AIIMS also revealed that 10 of the 13 patients admitted were Delhi Police personnel who were part of the rescue operation. The officers were among the first responders to enter the burning building and help evacuate trapped occupants. Hospital officials said all 10 rescuers are stable, under observation, and are expected to be discharged soon.

In addition to the injured, AIIMS received three unidentified bodies, which have been shifted to the Burns and Plastic Surgery Department for further procedures.

Earlier, the fire, which broke out around 8.50 a.m., is believed to have originated in a restaurant operating in the basement of the hotel before rapidly spreading through the multi-storey structure. Authorities said 47 people were rescued from the building, while 21 lost their lives in one of the deadliest fire incidents reported in the capital in recent years.

Officials had confirmed that many of the deceased were foreign nationals from countries including Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Bangladesh. Rescue operations involving Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police and disaster management teams continued for several hours before being completed around noon.

Delhi Police have registered a case under culpable homicide and other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the fire, including possible violations of safety and licensing norms at the property.
