Kendrapara: In an unprecedented incident, an unidentified young man allegedly died by suicide inside the Kendrapara District Collector’s office premises on Friday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, the youth hanged himself using a gamucha (traditional towel), tying it to a steel railing along the staircase leading to the first floor of the Collectorate building.
The body was later spotted by staff and visitors, triggering panic within the office premises. Police personnel rushed to the spot after being informed and recovered the body.
Officials said the identity of the deceased had not been established till the filing of this report. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the identity of the youth and determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further details are awaited. Authorities are also examining whether the deceased had any connection with the Collectorate or had visited the office before the incident.
The shocking incident has raised questions about security arrangements at the government office complex.
