Bhubaneswar: Senior officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday briefed Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg on the key outcomes of the recently concluded Second BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group held in Puri.
Dr. Krishna S. Vatsa, Member and Head of Department, NDMA, and Rita Missal, Member, NDMA, accompanied by Odisha Special Relief Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, called on the Chief Secretary at Lok Seva Bhawan here.
During the meeting, the NDMA delegation apprised the Chief Secretary of the major discussions, deliberations and engagements held under the framework of the BRICS Summit, with a focus on disaster risk reduction, resilience-building and international cooperation in disaster management.
Garg appreciated the successful hosting of the international event in Puri and reiterated Odisha’s commitment to strengthening disaster resilience through robust preparedness measures, effective response systems and the adoption of global best practices.
Highlighting Odisha’s achievements in disaster management, she underscored the state’s experience in cyclone preparedness, early warning dissemination and community-based disaster response mechanisms. These initiatives, she noted, have earned Odisha recognition at both national and international levels.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing and collaboration among BRICS nations to enhance disaster risk reduction strategies and build resilient communities in the face of increasing climate-related challenges.
Officials said Odisha remains committed to leveraging global experiences and technological advancements to further strengthen its disaster management framework and preparedness capabilities.
