Bhubaneswar: The Rourkela Police on Monday busted an alleged gambling den operating near the Odisha-Jharkhand border and arrested two persons in connection with the case.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at Luakera village under the jurisdiction of Sector-15 Police Station in Rourkela and apprehended two accused identified as Bahana Kansari (48) and Dillip Kansari (59), both residents of Luakera.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to ₹28.39 lakh, around 400 grams of gold ornaments, 600 grams of silver ornaments, three four-wheelers, four two-wheelers, mobile phones, dice and a cash-counting machine.
According to police, the gambling den had allegedly been operating in the area for several days. Following credible information about the illegal activity, the police carried out the operation and dismantled the setup.
In an official statement, Rourkela Police said that preliminary investigation revealed that multiple criminal cases are pending against the two accused at Bandamunda and Bisra police stations.
“During investigation, we found that several cases are pending against the two accused in Bandamunda and Bisra police stations. We suspect the involvement of some more persons in the interstate gambling racket. Steps are being taken to identify them and initiate legal action in this regard,” the police said.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the alleged interstate gambling network and identify other persons involved in the racket.
