Ashok Gehlot Defends Remarks On Sachin Pilot, Says No Allegations Were Made

Jaipur: Amid renewed political discussions over the Congress party’s internal dynamics and shortly after Sachin Pilot remarked that Ashok Gehlot considers him “like a son”, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has issued a significant clarification regarding his recent comments on Pilot and the events of September 25, 2022.

Gehlot said, “Whatever I said, I said honestly and from the heart. I did not make any accusations against anyone.”

Gehlot explained that he merely sought to place before the nation the sequence of events that had contributed to a public perception that he declined the Congress President’s post in order to remain Chief Minister.

He added that if anyone believes there were factual inaccuracies in his remarks, the matter can be discussed openly.

“I am ready to answer all questions,” he said.

According to Gehlot, a narrative had emerged suggesting that he refused the Congress presidency solely to retain the Chief Minister’s position. He maintained that he only presented the facts surrounding those events.

If anyone disagrees with his version or identifies any errors, he said, they are welcome to raise the issue directly, and he is prepared to respond.

Gehlot emphasised that his comments were being interpreted without considering the political context in which they were made.

He reiterated that he neither made personal remarks nor levelled allegations against anyone, but simply outlined the political developments as he saw them.

The former Chief Minister said his intention was to place the facts before the public and remove confusion surrounding the political situation.

He added that at a time when debates about democracy and political functioning are ongoing, presenting the truth is important.

Recently, Sachin Pilot remarked that Ashok Gehlot considers him like a son.

Responding to the statement, Gehlot agreed, saying Pilot was correct.

He noted that they share a long association, recalling that Pilot had been visiting his home since childhood and that their families have known each other for many years.
