Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a nowcast yellow warning for 13 districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty surface winds during the next three hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, thunderstorm activity with lightning and wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Sambalpur, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda and Koraput districts.
The weather office advised residents in the affected districts to remain alert and closely monitor weather conditions for any deterioration.
People have been urged to move to safer places and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from lightning strikes and strong winds.
The warning was issued by the Duty Officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, at 4:15 pm on Tuesday under the yellow category, indicating the need for heightened awareness and caution.
