Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning (Be Aware) for several districts of Odisha for the next five days as the southwest monsoon remains active over the state.
According to the forecast, on June 24, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are likely over Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh. Heavy rainfall is also expected at one or two places over Nabrangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.
On June 25, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh districts. Thunderstorms with 30-40 kmph gusty winds are expected over Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Nayagarh.
For June 26, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely over Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri districts, while thunderstorms with 30-40 kmph winds are expected over Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri.
On June 27, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts.
On June 28, heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places over Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.
The IMD has advised people, especially in the affected districts, to remain alert during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and stay updated with official weather bulletins.
