New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious Padma Awards at the second Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening.Three eminent personalities from Odisha received the Padma Shri award.
Charan Hembram was conferred the Padma Shri for his contributions in the field of Literature and Education. Sarat Patra and Simanchal Patra (also known as Seemanchal Patra) were honoured with the Padma Shri for their outstanding work in the field of Art.
Notably, Odisha’s renowned Sakhi Natak theatre artist Simanchal Patra received the award for his significant contributions to traditional theatre and performing arts. Sharad Kumar Patra was also recognised with the Padma Shri for his exceptional contribution in the field of art.
This year, the Government of India announced a total of 131 Padma Awards, which include 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards. The Padma Awards are among the highest civilian honours in the country.
Instituted in 1954, they are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day to recognise distinguished and exceptional achievements in diverse fields such as Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science & Engineering, Public Affairs, and Trade & Industry.
