Bhubaneswar: In a tragic and shocking incident, a primary school teacher in Balasore district died of a heart attack reportedly triggered by severe mental stress after being deprived of his salary for the past six months.
The incident took place at Kaanlkhunta village under Khaira block in Balasore district.
The deceased has been identified as Laxmidhar Mohanty. He was serving as a teacher at the Sujagada Primary School in Khaira block after being transferred from Durukhagoda Primary School in Dasamantapur block of Koraput district six months ago.
According to family members and local sources, Laxmidhar faced continuous financial hardship because he could not draw his salary after the transfer. Officials at the Block Education Officer’s office allegedly did not process his LPC (Last Pay Certificate) and other required documents. Despite repeatedly visiting the Koraput district office to resolve the issue, his grievances were ignored.
It is further alleged that Laxmidhar was being demanded a higher bribe which he was unable to pay. The prolonged salary crisis created immense financial and mental pressure on the teacher, pushing him into depression. On Wednesday morning, Laxmidhar suddenly suffered a heart attack while at home and passed away. His brother, Lambodhar Mohanty, has lodged a written complaint at Khaira police station, holding certain officials responsible for his brother’s death.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
