Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance apprehended Prafulla Haldar, Livestock Inspector of Raighar under the Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO), Nabarangpur, on Thursday, while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a beneficiary.
The bribe was sought in lieu of releasing the subsidy amount under the state’s Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, which supports dairy farmers to establish units of 1 to 5 cows.According to officials, the complainant had been selected as a beneficiary under the scheme guidelines.
Haldar allegedly demanded Rs 80,000 to release the subsidy and threatened to block payments for the complainant and other beneficiaries from his village if the bribe was not paid. With no other option, the beneficiary approached Vigilance authorities.
A team laid a trap and caught Haldar red-handed while accepting Rs 80,000. The entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Haldar from a Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
Koraput Vigilance P.S. registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is in progress.
