Bhubaneswar: A 55-year-old prisoner died inside Jharapada Jail on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Jaban Nayak, a resident of Tarini Basti.
According to reports, Nayak had his dinner and went to sleep on Sunday night. When he did not wake up in the morning on Monday, jail staff checked on him and found him unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Jaban was suffering from multiple health issues. He was undergoing imprisonment in Jharapada Jail in connection with cases of dacoity and murder. The exact cause of death will be ascertained after a post-mortem examination.
Jail authorities have informed the family members and have initiated necessary procedures regarding the incident.
