Police said the couple allegedly stole around 700 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh in cash after offering “intoxicated sweets” to the shopkeepers.

Following the incident, the accused reportedly fled Odisha and settled in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, to evade arrest.

Acting on sustained investigation and intelligence inputs, police traced and apprehended the duo from Tamil Nadu.

During further investigation, police recovered 200 grams of gold biscuits, two pistols, a motorcycle, nine live rounds of ammunition, and a laptop from their possession.

Further interrogation is underway to ascertain possible links and involvement in other crimes, police said.
