Bhubaneswar: Cuttack Rural Police has secured a conviction in a POCSO case registered at Tangi Police Station.The Ad-hoc Additional District & Sessions Judge (FTSC-I), Cuttack, convicted accused Sunil Kurli under Sections 137(2)/64(2)(m) BNS and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The court sentenced him to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. He was also sentenced to 5 years RI and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 137(2) BNS.
The case pertains to Tangi PS Case No. 28 dated 31.01.2025. The FIR was registered on 31.01.2025. The charge sheet was filed on 28.03.2025, within 56 days. Charges were framed on 19.04.2025. The judgment was delivered on 29.06.2026.The investigation was conducted by Inspector Sibaprasad Bhadra.
The case was represented by Sri S.N. Das, Special PP (POCSO), Cuttack. As per the case details, on January 28, 2025, accused Sunil Kurli kidnapped a 14-year-old girl. He took her to a forest on a motorcycle and committed sexual assault before abandoning her.
