Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha received intense rainfall during the last 24 hours, with Baragarh district witnessing extremely heavy downpour.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ambabhona station in Baragarh recorded a massive 317 mm of rainfall till 8:30 am on Thursday.
The IMD data revealed that one station received extremely heavy rainfall, three stations recorded very heavy rainfall, and as many as 21 stations experienced heavy rainfall.
Apart from Baragarh, significant rainfall was also recorded in Balangir (147 mm), Boudh (127.2 mm at Kantamal), Sonepur (117 mm at Birmaharajpur), and Nayagarh (110.3 mm at Bhapur).
This widespread heavy rainfall is the result of the active low-pressure area influencing the state. Many low-lying areas are likely to face waterlogging, while rivers and streams may see a sudden rise in water levels.
The IMD has already issued Red, Orange, and Yellow warnings for several districts, particularly in southern and western Odisha.
The regional weather office has urged people to exercise caution and avoid venturing into waterlogged areas during this spell of heavy rain.
