Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at Rama Devi Women’s University here on Tuesday after students staged a protest over the alleged entry of outsiders into the campus.
The agitating students locked all the university gates demanding stricter measures to prevent unauthorised persons from entering the premises. They alleged that repeated incidents of non-students entering the campus had created a sense of insecurity and were disrupting the academic environment.
As the protest intensified, police deployed three platoons of personnel at the university to maintain law and order. Senior police officers reached the campus and held discussions with the students in an effort to defuse the situation, but tension continued as the students pressed for action.
According to the university authorities, the disturbance followed a clash between two groups of students. University Vice Chancellor said that 12-12 youths had entered the campus and created disturbances. “Some outsiders entered the campus. Action will be taken against them,” the VC added.
Security personnel remained stationed at the site and were closely monitoring the situation to prevent any escalation.
