Balasore: At least 16 pilgrims returning from the Jagannath Temple in Puri were seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck on National Highway-16 late on Tuesday night.
The injured pilgrims are reported to be from West Bengal.
According to reports, the pilgrims were travelling in a Tata Winger when the accident occurred near Kuntapur Chhak under Basta Police Station limits in Balasore. The vehicle reportedly rammed into the rear of a truck parked on the side of the highway.
National Highway Patrolling Police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured pilgrims. All 16 victims were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Basta Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.
