Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds in several parts of Odisha on July 13, while forecasting heavy rainfall in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh districts on Monday.
The weather office has also predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Besides, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
The IMD advised people to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
Residents have been urged to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, keep away from electric poles and water bodies, and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.
