Puri: Lifeguards on Puri beach carried out a mock drill on Monday to prepare for emergency rescue operations during the upcoming Rath Yatra.
As per reports, the exercise was conducted by the private lifeguard association to train personnel on how to respond in adverse conditions and save lives. During the drill, lifeguards practiced reaching drowning tourists quickly, rescuing them from the sea, and providing immediate first aid on the beach.
Officials said the drill was organized specifically in view of Rath Yatra, when lakhs of devotees and tourists are expected to visit Puri. The aim is to ensure that the rescue teams are fully prepared to handle any emergency.
The Lifeguard Sangha members also said that awareness will be created among tourists about ‘rip currents’ and the dangers associated with them, so that people remain cautious while bathing in the sea.
