Nabarangpur: A 30-year-old man was mauled to death by a female bear and her two cubs while grazing goats near his village in Nabarangpur district on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Faguna Gouda (30) of Kusumi village under Jharigam block.
According to reports, Faguna and his two friends had taken their goats to graze near the village cremation ground. At around 2 pm, he was sitting under the shade of a Chakunda (sickle senna) tree when a female bear, accompanied by her two cubs, suddenly attacked him from behind.
Hearing his screams, his two friends rushed to the spot and found the bear biting Faguna on the head. Terrified by the sight, they ran back to the village and alerted the residents.
By the time the villagers reached the spot, Faguna had succumbed to his injuries. He had sustained grievous injuries all over his body.
On receiving information about the incident, Forest Department Ranger-in-Charge Sushant Singh, accompanied by his assistant Sushant Majhi and a wildlife team, reached the spot. Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family at Jharigam police station, police personnel arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
