Kendujhar: A 55-year-old man was killed after a wild elephant attacked and trampled him on a road near Soyabali forest under the Guali section of the Badabil forest range in Kendujhar district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Chintamani Patra, a resident of Soyabali village under Serend Gram Panchayat.
According to preliminary information, Patra was travelling to a plant at Kashia on his moped for work at around 7.15 am when an elephant emerged from the nearby forest and began chasing him on the road.
A local youth, identified as Rautu Munda, who was jogging along the same road, attempted to rescue Patra by pulling him away from the charging elephant. However, the animal turned towards Munda, forcing him to flee to save his own life. Munda later said the elephant trampled Patra in front of him.
Passersby later rushed the injured man to Badabil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
