Bhubaneswar: Odisha received widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Puri recording the highest amount of 143.8 mm till 08: 30 am on Wednesday.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, three stations received very heavy rainfall while 21 stations recorded heavy rainfall.
Kendrapada district followed Puri with strong showers as Derabis recorded 135 mm and Patamundai received 129 mm. Mayurbhanj’s Chandua received 107 mm, while Bhadrak town recorded 102.2 mm of rainfall.
Several other places also witnessed significant rainfall including Betanati (101 mm), Remuna and Khaira (87 mm each), Satyabadi (85 mm), and multiple stations in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Cuttack districts.
This intense rainfall activity is associated with the low-pressure area lying over the northern Bay of Bengal.
The weather department has warned of continued moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in many parts of the state in the coming days. The fresh spell of rain has come at a crucial time as Puri prepares for the grand Rath Yatra.
