Paralakhemundi: A bomb threat email sent to the District and Sessions Court in Gajapati district on Thursday triggered a major security scare, prompting the evacuation of the court premises and an extensive search by police and bomb disposal personnel.
According to officials, the email was received by the court registrar at 7:58 am. The sender claimed to be associated with the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and threatened to detonate multiple cyanide gas bombs inside the court premises and the judge’s chamber. The email also warned of an explosion at around 1:15 pm and cited alleged religious motives for the attack.
Acting on the alert, the registrar immediately informed the police. Security personnel, along with a bomb squad, rushed to the court, evacuated the premises and carried out a thorough search of the building and surrounding areas.
No suspicious object or explosive material was found during the search, officials said, adding that further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the email.
The incident comes a day after multiple courts across Odisha received similar bomb threat emails, triggering heightened security measures at judicial establishments across the state. Authorities are probing whether the latest threat is linked to the earlier emails.
