Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief over the deaths of two devotees during Rath Yatra in Puri. On the occasion of the sacred Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, two devotees died in separate incidents in Puri on Thursday.
An elderly devotee died due to suffocation in the heavy crowd, while another devotee succumbed to a heart attack during the festival.
Majhi expressed deep grief over the deaths and conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families. He prayed for peace to the departed souls.
The administration has taken immediate steps to admit other devotees who felt unwell during the chariot pulling and is providing them with the best medical care. The Chief Minister wished a speedy recovery to the ailing devotees and directed the administration to ensure their proper treatment and all necessary assistance.
Officials said the situation in Puri is completely normal and orderly at present. The State Government said it is working with a service-oriented attitude for the service, safety and welfare of the lakhs of devotees who have gathered in the pilgrim town for the mega festival.
