New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Saturday, will visit the Border Security Force’s (BSF) 18th Battalion Border Outpost (BOP) in Siliguri, near the India-Bangladesh border, as part of his three-day visit to West Bengal.
During the visit, scheduled to begin at 11 A.M., HM Shah will interact with BSF personnel, address a ‘Prahari Sammelan’, participate in a plantation drive, and inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several BSF infrastructure and development projects.
Following the programme at Jumagach, the Union Home Minister will chair a high-level meeting at the Uttarkanya Auditorium in Siliguri at 1:30 P.M. to review border management and security-related issues in West Bengal. The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening security in North Bengal’s border areas, including the strategically important Siliguri Corridor, popularly known as the ‘Chicken’s Neck’.
Later in the day, at 4:15 P.M., HM Shah will review the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state. He will subsequently chair another meeting at 5:45 P.M. to review issues related to birth and death registration in West Bengal. After concluding his engagements in Siliguri, the Home Minister will leave for Kolkata in the evening.
On Sunday, HM Shah will chair a meeting on the law-and-order situation in West Bengal. He is also scheduled to meet with the Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) of all border districts in South Bengal to review security and administrative preparedness.
During his visit to Kolkata, the Union Home Minister will inaugurate the newly constructed World Museum at the National Library. He will also lay the foundation stone for Amul Bengal Dairy’s new curd manufacturing plant.
The Union Home Minister reached Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri last night on a three-day visit to West Bengal. He was received by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on his arrival at the airport.
HM Shah’s three-day visit to West Bengal is focussed on reviewing border security, law and order, the implementation of key governance initiatives, and infrastructure development in the state.
