Bhubaneswar: A 2-year-old boy drowned in a rainwater-filled drain in Falapura village of Haldidiha Panchayat under Binjharpur block of Jajpur district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Shreyanshu Malik, son of Akash Malik of the village. According to locals, Shreyanshu had stepped outside near his house after having lunch. He accidentally fell into a drain that was filled with rainwater.
When the family noticed the child was missing and started searching, they grew suspicious and found him lying in the drain. He was pulled out in a critical condition and rushed to the Binjharpur Community Health Center. Doctors there declared him brought dead.
Alakunda police reached the spot, seized the body and sent it to the district headquarters hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.The tragic death has cast a pall of gloom over the locality.
