Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened four sluice gates again to discharge excess water that entered the reservoir due to heavy rain in the upper catchment area.
An official order has been issued to open four gates. At present, a total of four sluice gates remain open, with three on the left side and one on the right side.
The gates were opened following a steady rise in the water level in the dam caused by incessant rainfall in the upstream areas. Dam officials said they are closely monitoring the water level and the inflow situation.
People residing in the downstream areas of the Mahanadi have been alerted and asked to remain cautious.
