Bhubaneswar: Panic broke out at Maharishi College of Natural Law around noon on Thursday after a group of non-students drove a Mahindra Thar SUV into the campus, leading to a confrontation with students and faculty.
According to reports, the outsiders allegedly got into a heated argument with students which soon turned physical. Agitated students immediately blocked the SUV inside the campus, preventing the group from leaving. The college administration also locked the main gates to contain the situation.
Following urgent calls from the campus, a police team from Saheed Nagar police station reached the spot and took six individuals into custody. Police are questioning them on how they managed to enter the college and the exact circumstances of the alleged altercation. CCTV footage from the campus is being examined to identify any other persons involved in the incident.
The incident has raised serious concerns over security arrangements at the college. Questions are being asked about how outsiders, including students from other colleges and non-students, managed to enter the campus despite security guards being deployed at the main gate.
In the aftermath, security has been tightened at the college. Police have been deployed at the main entrance and strict checks are being carried out. Entry is now being allowed only to those with valid student ID cards.
Police said an investigation is underway in coordination with the college authorities to ascertain whether more people were part of the group.
