Raurkela: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, Chhend Police in Raurkela arrested nine persons for allegedly indulging in gambling and seized cash worth ₹7,00,700 along with vehicles, mobile phones and other gambling-related articles.
Acting on credible information, a police team conducted a raid and caught the accused while they were allegedly engaged in illegal gambling activities. During the operation, the police recovered ₹7,00,700 in cash, 12 mobile phones, a Mahindra Scorpio, a Maruti Suzuki Swift, a motorcycle, a scooty and other articles believed to have been used in the commission of the offence.
A case has been registered under Section 3 of the Odisha Prevention of Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of the accused and identify any wider gambling network.
Police said it remains committed to taking stringent legal action against all forms of illegal activities and ensuring peace, public safety and the rule of law in the city.
