Greater Noida Authority Files FIR Against Contractor After 6-Year-Old Dies In Water-Filled Pit

New Delhi: The Greater Noida Authority has registered an FIR against a contractor and two site supervisors and terminated their services following the death of a six-year-old boy who fell into a water-filled pit at Kala Dham Society in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park area.

According to the Authority, an FIR has been lodged against the contractor, Manoj Jain, supervisor Johnny, and technical supervisor Akash. Officials said the accident occurred due to the contractor’s negligence after the borewell installation site was allegedly shifted without the Authority’s knowledge or approval.

Speaking on the incident, A.K. Singh, General Manager of the Greater Noida Authority, said, “This is a very tragic incident and has caused immense grief. The Authority is deeply saddened as well…The society had approached us over a water supply issue, following which the Authority approved the installation of a tube well. It was to be installed at a nearby location, but space constraints meant some trees first had to be removed, and that process had been initiated about a week earlier…”

The Authority said that preliminary findings indicate the contractor shifted the borewell location without authorisation, resulting in the excavation at the site where the fatal accident later occurred. Officials have initiated further action while the police continue their investigation into the case.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage among residents, who have demanded strict accountability and stronger safety measures at construction and infrastructure sites. Residents have alleged that the excavation site was left open without adequate barricading, warning signs, or other protective measures despite posing a serious risk to the public.

Police have also launched an investigation into the incident, while the child’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The victim, identified as six-year-old Avyaan Surya, was the son of Siwan Yadav, Vice Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya. According to police and local residents, the nearly 15-foot-deep pit had been dug for borewell work and was filled with rainwater after recent showers.

Avyaan was reportedly playing with other children near the site when he accidentally fell into the water-filled pit. Local residents rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The tragedy has renewed concerns over safety lapses at construction sites in Greater Noida, with residents urging authorities to ensure strict compliance with safety norms, including proper barricading and warning signage, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
