Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police on Tuesday took IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy into custody in a case relating to allegations of sexually harassing a woman batchmate at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
Police shifted the accused to Attapur Police Station, where the complaint was filed on July 19.
Uday Krishna Reddy could not be traced when the police went to serve the notices at the two addresses he had given during the investigation. His mobile was also switched off.
Police had formed four teams to trace him. However, the accused trainee officer denied that he was absconding.
He clarified that he had gone to his native village, Ullapalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district, to visit his grandmother after she fell ill following the allegations levelled against him.
Uday Krishna Reddy had told a media channel earlier in the day that he was going to Hyderabad and would cooperate with the investigating officers.
Reiterating that the allegations against him were false, he expressed confidence that he would prove his innocence.
Last week, he had approached the High Court seeking orders to quash the First Information Report (FIR). He said that the FIR was registered against him based on false allegations.
A 30-year-old woman trainee officer alleged that Reddy harassed her between June 23 and July 10 while they were undergoing training at the academy.
She accused him of sending abusive messages, subjecting her to criminal intimidation, recording her private video and sending it to her husband. She also alleged that he took her mobile phone to his room, forced her to disclose its password and blackmailed her into revealing personal messages.
Based on her complaint, Attapur police registered a case under Sections 74 (criminal force against a woman), 75 (sexual harassment), 77 (voyeurism), 78 (stalking), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 66E (violation of privacy) and 67A (transmission of sexually explicit material in electronic form) of the IT Act.
Reddy had allegedly attempted suicide at a relative’s house in Hyderabad on July 21. He was admitted to a private hospital.
The body samples sent for examination tested negative for poison and drugs, and indicated only an overdose of alcohol. He was suspected to have lost consciousness due to excessive alcohol consumption.
Reddy claimed in a purported handwritten suicide note that he and the woman trainee officer had been in a relationship for a year.
He named four persons, including the woman and her husband, holding them responsible for his decision to end his life.
He claimed they had been in a relationship since June 2025 and continued to be physically and emotionally involved even after her marriage.
Denying allegations of force and coercion, Reddy also claimed that he has evidence in the form of photographs and videos to prove that their relationship was consensual.
