Four Dead As Floods Affect Over Two Lakh People Across Six Districts In Odisha: SRC

Bhubaneswar: The ongoing flood situation in Odisha has claimed four lives and affected more than 2.03 lakh people across six districts, according to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Rajesh Prabhakar Patil on Wednesday.

As per the flood status report issued at 9 am, a total of 2,03,208 people in 748 villages, 233 Gram Panchayats, 44 blocks, six urban local bodies and four wards have been impacted by the floods. The district administrations have so far evacuated 27,967 people to safer locations, while 226 villages remain marooned.

The floods have also resulted in the death of nine livestock animals. Balasore district is the worst affected, with 1,09,429 people hit across 378 villages in 12 blocks. As many as 19,080 people have been evacuated from the district, while 654 houses have been damaged. The administration has set up 125 relief camps and is providing cooked food to 16,987 beneficiaries in the district.

Bhadrak district has reported around 80,000 affected people in 220 villages across five blocks. Around 5,330 people have been shifted to safer places, and 41 relief camps are currently operational.

Dhenkanal district has recorded four human casualties along with damage to 13 houses.

In Jajpur, 11,156 people have been affected across 75 villages. The district administration has evacuated 1,640 people, while crops over 4,072 hectares have been damaged. The district is running 20 relief camps.

Mayurbhanj has 2,487 affected people and has evacuated 1,917 individuals. Crop loss has been reported over 3,744 hectares and 87 houses have been damaged in the district.

Sambalpur has reported 88 affected people and damage to seven houses. Overall, floodwaters have damaged 7,901 hectares of crops and 761 houses across the affected districts.
