Two-Year RI For Former RCMS Secretary Over Fertiliser Fund Misappropriation

Bhubaneswar: Former Secretary of the Regional Cooperative Marketing Society (RCMS), Bonai in Sundaragada district, Dhirendra Kumar Satapathy, has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after being convicted in a corruption case registered by Odisha Vigilance for misappropriation of government funds meant for fertilisers.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundaragada, on Wednesday found Satapathy, a retired Secretary of RCMS, Bonai, guilty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) and 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code. Besides the jail term, the court also imposed a fine on the convict.

According to Odisha Vigilance, Satapathy was chargesheeted for allegedly misappropriating government funds towards the cost of fertilisers supplied through RCMS, Bonai during the 2003-04 financial year.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance said it will move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of Satapathy’s pension in accordance with the applicable rules governing retired government employees convicted in corruption cases.
