Debagada: A 25-year-old youth was arrested by Debagada police for allegedly carrying a country-made pistol, threatening a villager, and creating fear in Sunamunda village under Debagada Adarsha police station limits, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Rohit Behera of Sunamunda village, had allegedly been moving around the village with the firearm and intimidating local residents. According to police, he recently went to the house of Raghunath Naik, allegedly abused him in filthy language and threatened to kill him.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Naik, Debagada Adarsha police registered a case and arrested the accused. During the operation, police seized one country-made pistol and various materials allegedly used in the manufacture of firearms from his possession.
A case has been registered at Debagada Adarsha police station as Case No. 368/2026 under Sections 126(2), 296, 351(3) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25(1)(b) and 27 of the Arms Act.
Additional Superintendent of Police Dhiraj Chopdar said the accused has been taken into custody and further investigation into the case is in progress.
