Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, on Wednesday flagged off OPTCL’s new Van-Mounted Cable Fault Locator and Testing System at Kharavel Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, Vishal Kumar Dev, and CMD, OPTCL, Bhaskar Sarma.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy CM said the expansion of underground power cabling in urban Odisha is progressing rapidly to ensure reliable and safe power supply. He informed that Bhubaneswar and its surrounding areas are currently served by around 44.2 km of underground EHT cable network, with a further 26.55 km set to be commissioned soon.
Singh Deo noted that locating faults in underground cables is inherently challenging as they are not visible, and conventional fault-finding methods often lead to delays in restoration.
The newly inducted Van-Mounted Cable Fault Locator and Testing System is expected to significantly reduce fault detection time and improve restoration efficiency for underground EHT cables in the capital region and other urban areas.
