Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Debadyuti Nanda, former Junior Assistant in the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO), Baliapal in Baleswar district, for allegedly misappropriating government funds amounting to Rs 37.32 lakh through forged arrear pay bills.

According to Vigilance, Nanda, who is currently posted as Junior Assistant at Government High School, Jagai under Baliapal block, allegedly embezzled Rs 37,32,708 between 2022 and 2026 while serving in the BEO office as bill clerk-cum-accountant.

The investigation revealed that the accused allegedly prepared forged arrear pay bills in his own name and fraudulently inserted them into arrear dearness allowance (DA) bills meant for other employees under the BEO, Baliapal. Vigilance alleged that he exploited his official position to facilitate the fraudulent withdrawals.

Following his arrest, Nanda was produced before the court on Saturday.

In connection with the case, Odisha Vigilance has registered Baleswar Vigilance Police Station Case No. 13/2026 under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with Sections 467, 468, 471 and 477-A of the Indian Penal Code.

Further investigation into the alleged financial irregularities is underway.
