Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet today approved a 5-year extension of the state sector scheme “Popularisation of Agricultural Implements, Equipment and Diesel Pump Sets, etc.” to further boost farm mechanisation in the state.
The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment said the scheme was launched to promote access to modern agricultural machinery and equipment. The aim is to enhance operational efficiency, improve productivity, reduce drudgery, and support long-term sustainability in agriculture.
Under the scheme, the government provides financial assistance in the form of subsidies to farmers across Odisha. It covers a wide range of equipment including tractors, rotavators, power tillers, combine harvesters, and other farm and post-harvest machinery. During the previous phase from FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26, a total of 2,54,774 farmers were benefited, reflecting its wide outreach.
To sustain the momentum, the Cabinet has approved the extension of the scheme for another five years, from FY 2026-27 to FY 2030-31, with an estimated outlay of Rs 2,200 crore. During this extended period, the scheme is expected to benefit 3,79,000 farmers across the state.
Officials said the continued support will help more farmers adopt modern equipment and improve farm incomes.
